Training sessions Sunday to count homeless

SANTA BARBARA – 10:32 a.m. – The next phase in a massive effort to identify and count Santa Barbara County’s homeless population gets underway Sunday.

Common Ground Santa Barbara will train nearly 500 volunteers to canvas the community.
The sessions take place  February 27, 2011 in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Lompoc.

Common Ground Santa Barbara says acquiring data on the area’s most vulnerable is the key to getting some back on their feet.

This comes as homeless advocate Ken Williams on Friday confirmed the identity of a man found dead near Highway 101 and the train tracks near Olive Mill Road yesterday.

Williams said “Lucky” became the seventh homeless death this year.
