Today, more than 80 volunteers helped put together each unit at Artisan Court to make it move-in ready for residents. From decorations to bedding, each space was outfitted with basic necessities.
Artisan Court will be adding 55 affordable housing units to the City of Santa Barbara for low-income residents. From former homeless to youth aging out of foster care and even Santa Barbara’s low-income workforce.
The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara is behind this development. Organizers say the complex will provide a safe and secure community to its residents.
Organizers say the need is great, especially for foster youth who are transitioning from the foster youth system into independent living. Nationally, 18% to 22% of youth aging out of foster care experience homelessness within 3 years.
