Senior Programs
More than ever, the Housing Authority has been focusing its efforts on the senior population, realizing we are in the midst of unprecedented growth in the U.S. population aged 65 and older. In 2011, in communities across the country, the leading edge of the Baby Boom generation reached age 65. By 2030, more than 70 million Americans—twice the number in 2000—will be 65 and older. At that time, older adults will comprise nearly one in five Americans. At the same time, spending for aging supports and services is shrinking—precisely at the time it is needed most.
Bringing supportive services to our affordable senior housing communities is a cost-effective strategy for helping low-income seniors age in place even as they struggle with frailty, disability and chronic illness. Some of the services and programs offered to seniors through the Housing Authority are listed below.
Wellness Programs
Programs that address physical fitness, nutrition, and prescription information.
Grocery Trips
Provides transportation for weekly shopping trips.
Senior Events
Annual ‘Young at Heart’ Senior Fair
Provides Housing Authority seniors and other community members with the opportunity to meet with and explore resources available in our community, while enjoying a nice afternoon of food and music with friends and neighbors.

Senior Services
Easy Lift Transportation Coupons
Available to Housing Authority seniors, which are good for one ride utilizing their Dial-a-Ride Service.
MTD Bus Passes
Available to Housing Authority seniors, $2 for 10 rides, one purchase per month while available.
Furniture Closet
Provides gently used furniture acquired through community donations to seniors moving into housing.
Supportive Services
Case Management
The Supportive Services Program provides case management services by trained professionals, to help improve the quality of life of Housing Authority seniors, with an emphasis on promoting dignity, independence, and healthy aging-in-place.
Counseling
Short-term, individual and family counseling is available free of charge through a contract with Family Service Agency.
