Casitas de la Guerra is situated in a neighborhood of century-old homes. In planning this development, the Housing Authority took steps to preserve and promote the area’s rich history and architectural character by designing a project that included renovation and new construction. Two deteriorated craftsman-style homes fronting De La Guerra Street were restored to their original condition. On the remaining and largely vacant land, new affordable housing units were constructed in two phases. The first phase added 6 units in three craftsman-style duplex buildings. The second phase added 7 senior apartments (click here to view the senior portion of Casitas de la Guerra) in one structure designed in the Monterey-Spanish vernacular, an architectural motif that is also present in the neighborhood.
